A 49-year-old woman died after a head-on crash Saturday night on U.S. Highway 34 near Creston, Iowa.

Deanne Lee Hoffman, of Creston, was taken to the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, where she died. The driver of the second vehicle, Donna Jo Spare, 61, of Afton, Iowa, was taken to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

Iowa State Patrol investigators, determined that the 2001 Chevrolet Impala driven by Spare crossed the center line "for an unknown reason" and collided with the 1997 Buick LeSabre driven by Hoffman. The accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. about 2½-miles east of Creston, near the Jaguar Avenue intersection.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Creston Police Department assisted in the accident investigation.
