Council Bluffs authorities urged motorists to be alert for children on bicycles heading to and from school after a juvenile on a bike Wednesday morning was struck by a slow-moving vehicle but not seriously injured.

Bluffs police said a 57-year-old Bluffs woman was westbound in her vehicle on Avenue G around 7:30 a.m. when the juvenile crossed Avenue G northbound at North 21st Street and was struck. Police said the motorist was moving about 10 mph at the time because of the high number of schoolchildren in the area.

The juvenile was checked by paramedics and released without treatment to a guardian.

While authorities were at the scene, they received reports that another juvenile was also struck by a vehicle in the 2100 block of Avenue G. Authorities determined that the second juvenile fell off his bike and was not struck by a vehicle.

He was escorted to a nearby middle school where he was checked by a school nurse.

Tuesday morning, a 54-year-old Bluffs bicyclist was killed when he was struck by 28-year-old woman driving an SUV at South 35th Street and 14th Avenue.
