Coat drive: New Beginnings Worship Center in Bellevue is holding its third annual Koats for Kids drive. Collection sites are: Bank of Nebraska, 923 Galvin Road; The Bellevue Leader, 604 Fort Crook Road; Culver’s Restaurant, 3602 Raynor Parkway; The Special Restaurant, 303 Fort Crook Road; Dairy Queen, 501 W. Mission Ave.; Downtown Coffee Shop, 119 W. Mission Ave.; and New Beginnings Worship Center, 2231 Jefferson St. Coats from sizes 3T to 14/16 are among the most in demand. Winter clothing, winter boots, tennis shoes, socks and underwear are also needed. No sweaters or hoodies will be accepted.

Midlands Foundation grants: The Midlands Community Foundation awarded $96,340 in grants to 18 nonprofits serving Sarpy and Cass Counties, the first of two this fiscal year. The next grant deadline is Feb. 1, with funds to be distributed in April. Nonprofits awarded grants this cycle were: Food Bank for the Heartland, $15,000; OneWorld Community Health Centers Inc., $10,000;Sarpy County Historical Society, $7,500; Papillion Area Lions Club, $7,000; At Ease USA, $6,200; Assistance League of Omaha, $6,000; Fontenelle Forest, $5,000; Ollie Webb Center Inc., $5,000; Omaha Performing Arts, $5,000; Habitat for Humanity of Sarpy County, $5,000; Kids Can Community Center, $5,000; Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska, $4,400; Boy Scouts of America-Cornhusker Council, $3,000; Boy Scouts of America-Mid-America Council, $3,000; Autism Action Partnership, $2,500; Lofte Community Theatre, $2,500; Lift Up Sarpy County, $2,240; Project Lifesaver, $2,000.

Gretna Foundation grants: The Gretna Community Foundation awarded grants totaling $7,700 to six nonprofit organizations that serve the Gretna community: Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy, $3,000; Sarpy County Historical Society, $2,000; Gretna Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, $1,000; Little Giants Foundation, $600; the Gretna Soccer Club, $600; and Trevor Ernst, Boy Scouts of America, $500.

Volunteers needed: The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program is looking to expand its team of volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Tax-Aide is an AARP Foundation program that offers free tax filing help, especially for adults 50 and older. There are a variety of roles available for those interested in volunteering. Last year, 191 AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers in Nebraska helped more than 14,000 people file their federal and state tax returns. To volunteer, visit or call 1-888-687-2277.
