COUNCIL BLUFFS - In describing Council Bluffs and its residents, Haley Mace used words like unbelievable, unstoppable, unrivaled, unchained and unique.
Notice anything similar there?
Now, she and other members of the Celebrate CB Board want the residents to describe their unlimited, undeniable potential.
“Unleash Your Un” is the theme for Celebrate CB 2016, the annual feel-good-about-your-community event. Mace described it as “unlike any theme before – unique.”
“We decided it was to time to celebrate what makes Council Bluffs unique and to give everybody a chance to say what their unness is,” said Mace, board president for Celebrate CB. “I think we’re undaunted, unstoppable, unbelievable – and we want to give the residents a chance to use that ‘un’ in their own way.”
This year’s event, announced during ceremonies Tuesday at the Public Library, will be held from May 13 to 21 with traditional activities like Clean Sweep, the Bayliss Park Friday luncheon, and the climatic parade and carnival on the final day. In recent years, the parade has had up to 125 entries, Mace said.
“We are unique for a reason,” she said.
Something different, however, will kick off the week – a free concert starring Yacht Rock Review at Harrah’s Stir Concert Cove, where the this year’s grand marshal will be announced.
To “keep up with the times,” as Mace said, this year’s event will even have its own app.
Mayor Matt Walsh praised all the people involved in this annual celebration.
“It has grown through the years, and it takes a lot of volunteers to make this a success,” he said.
