GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — A former Grand Island Community Foundation executive director pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to embezzlement.

She is charged with felony theft by unlawful taking for incidents that occurred between June 1, 2009, and June 15, 2012. The charge was filed on Oct. 22.

Katzberg resigned June 15 and paid $27,105 in restitution, foundation board Chairwoman Lynn Cronk said previously.

Charges were filed after a routine audit in June 2012 found a bank account opened by Katzberg. It appeared that foundation money had been moved into that account and was being used by Katzberg for private expenses. Katzberg is free on a recognizance bond.

The Community Foundation handles funds from donors to benefit the community.
