The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's arts and sciences dean will step down on June 30.

UNL announced Monday that Joseph Francisco informed the university of his plan to resign.

Francisco worked at UNL for four years. He came to the university from Purdue, where he was a professor of chemistry and earth and atmospheric sciences.

He said through a written statement issued by UNL that he had been honored by the chance to serve as dean at the university.

"I am ready to embark on a new journey personally, " he said. "I am looking forward to renewing my passion for research and am excited to continue to contribute in my field."
