Historically, the Elkhorn Public Schools have named elementary schools after the subdivision where the buildings are situated.

That won’t change with the district’s 12th elementary school. The school board voted 5-0 on Monday night to name a new school near 186th and Ida Streets the Woodbrook Elementary School. Board member Chuck Burney was absent.

The mascot and colors for the school will be picked at a later date. Woodbrook is scheduled to open in 2020.

The district is building the elementary school, a middle school and a high school with funds from a $149.6 million bond issue passed last year. — Emily Nitcher
