Four Nebraska schools received a national honor Monday for academic excellence.

The U.S. Department of Education named them National Blue Ribbon Schools.

The schools are Hitchcock County Elementary School, Culbertson; Maude Rousseau Elementary School, Lincoln; North Bend Central Elementary School, North Bend; and Osceola Elementary School, Osceola.

The schools are among 300 public and 49 private schools recognized this year.

The Nebraska schools were honored as “exemplary high performing” schools.

Department officials have been designating Blue Ribbon Schools for 36 years.

In a press release, the department said the award “affirms the hard work of students, educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.”
