DOW CITY, Iowa — A Drake University student will run for the Iowa House District 18 seat.

Dillon Malone, 21, of Dow City announced his candidacy Monday for the seat being vacated by Rep. Jason Schultz of Schleswig.

Malone, a senior at Drake University, is majoring in political science. While in college, he served as legislative clerk for State Rep. Ron Jorgenson, R-Sioux City.

Malone is active in the Crawford County Republican Party and was vice president of the Drake College Republicans. He serves on the Dow City Planning and Zoning Commission and was appointed by Gov. Terry Branstad to serve on the Juvenile Justice Advisory Council.

Schultz, a Republican, announced his candidacy early in July for the Iowa Senate District 9 seat from which Nancy Boettger of Harlan is retiring.

On the same day, Steven Holt, a Republican and business owner from Denison, announced his candidacy for the District 18 House seat.

Iowa House District 18 includes the western two-thirds of Crawford County, Shelby County and seven townships in Harrison County.
