A woman was injured after being put in the trunk of a car that fled police and crashed, police said.

The woman had been reported abducted.

Both the woman and the car’s driver were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center with injuries that paramedics considered serious but not life-threatening.

The chase lasted about 15 minutes.

It began about 6 p.m., when someone called 911 reporting an abduction in progress at a home near 49th and Wirt Streets. Police pursued a car, described as a black Cadillac, as it sped through nearby neighborhoods and blew through stop signs and traffic lights, according to 911 dispatch reports.

As police pursued the vehicle, they described the unfolding chase over the radio: streets were sometimes slick, traffic was generally light and speeds reached 75 mph.

By 6:15 p.m., the vehicle had crashed near 46th Avenue and Miami Street. The driver ran, but police were able to quickly apprehend him, said Officer Michael Pecha, a police spokesman.

The incident remained under investigation late Sunday.
