Two men were injured Wednesday at separate locations in Omaha when each was struck by a vehicle as he was walking or running, police said.
Julian Flores, 47, of Omaha, suffered a head injury when he was struck near 21st and Cuming Streets just before 7 a.m. by a car whose driver police alleged was drunk.
A 2014 Dodge Dart was eastbound on Cuming when it struck Flores, who was crossing Cuming from north to south, police said. The driver fled from the scene and was located by police about 30 minutes later.
Flores was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center, and a hospital representative said Wednesday night that he was in critical condition.
Justin W. Peters, 24, of Bellevue, was booked into jail on suspicion of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and driving under the influence in a crash in which there was a serious bodily injury.
The second pedestrian was struck about 6 p.m. in east Omaha.
Frederick L. Washington, 48, of Omaha, suffered facial injuries and bruises that were serious but not life-threatening, police said. He was intoxicated, police said.
A 2016 Chevrolet Equinox that was southbound on Abbott Drive struck Washington near East Locust Street. Washington was crossing westbound. No one in the sport utility vehicle was injured.
Witnesses said the SUV, which was driven by Jonathan C. Pitts, 33, of Omaha, had a steady green light, police said. Washington wore all dark clothing.
