Police on Friday arrested two suspects in connection with the March killing of a 58-year-old man in the Prospect Village section of northeast Omaha.

Darryl T. Wellon, 28, and Michael C. Walker III, 25, were booked on suspicion of first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Police allege that Wellon and Walker shot to death Elston G. McCarthur, whose body was found by his former wife March 6 inside his house at 3517 Blondo St. Mary Cousin, who remained close to McCarthur after their 10-year marriage ended in 2013, said she had been praying for a resolution.

“I’m just glad they found the people who were involved in killing him,” she said. “I just hope justice is done.”

Cousin said she believed that one of the suspects was the estranged husband of a woman who was living with McCarthur, who was known by his middle name, Gene.

Police did not describe a motive in the homicide.

Both suspects were already in custody at the Douglas County Jail, Wellon since Oct. 13 and Walker since Dec. 14, and have been charged with gun possession crimes that are not connected to McCarthur’s killing.
