MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa (AP) — Iowa police say a man has died during a police chase after crashing head-on into a semitrailer.

The Iowa State Patrol says 26-year-old Scott Trimble of Davenport died Sunday in Jasper County. They say he was driving on Interstate 80 when he hit spike strips deployed by Mitchellville police. They say he kept driving before losing control and crossing through the median, striking the semitrailer.

Trimble was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger was taken to a hospital. The passenger's condition is unclear.

The driver of the semi wasn't injured.

Police didn't say why they were pursuing Trimble.
