Another staff member of Nebraska’s prison system has been injured by an inmate.

A staff member at the Tecumseh State Prison was struck in the head and the face by an inmate while the two were in an office in one of the housing units.

The assault occurred about 12:45 p.m., according to a statement by the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.

The staff member was able to get out of the office and call for help. The individual’s injuries were not life-threatening, according to the statement.

The names of the staff member and inmate will not be released. Findings from an investigation of the assault will forwarded to the Johnson County Attorney.

Since early July, more than 20 staff members have been assaulted in Nebraska correctional facilities. Most of the assaults occurred in July and August.
