Pot bust near Gretna, 1-31

A traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Sarpy County on Thursday yielded 189 pounds of marijuana, estimated to be worth $750,000.

Nebraska State Patrol troopers seized 189 pounds of marijuana during a Thursday traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Sarpy County.

About 8:20 a.m., a trooper saw a 2012 Dodge Durango following another vehicle too closely near Gretna, the patrol said. During the traffic stop, the trooper smelled marijuana inside the SUV.

The marijuana was found in heat-sealed packages that were hidden under a blanket in the SUV’s cargo area. The patrol said the marijuana had an estimated street value of $750,000.

The driver, a 65-year-old man from Oroville, California, and passenger, a 40-year-old woman from Hanover Park, Illinois, were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and taken to the Sarpy County Jail.
