Authorities in Scotts Bluff County are working to identify a person found dead in a burned vehicle near Morrill on Friday night.

At 10 p.m. Friday, county deputies, Morrill police and the Morrill and Lyman fire departments responded to a call about a vehicle on fire in a field about 3 miles south of Morrill.

After putting out the flames, responders found the body inside, the Scotts Bluff Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with the family of a person reported missing from the Morrill area but neither the person’s identity nor the vehicle’s VIN number have been confirmed. The Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s office is assisting with the investigation.
