A North Carolina man was arrested by Lincoln police after they say he attempted to kidnap a 14-year-old girl and take her to live with him in Wisconsin.

The 27-year-old man had been in contact with the girl through social media and chat rooms, officials said, and the two had sexual conversations.

The man told the girl he would pick her up and take her to another state but said he first wanted to stop at a hotel, police said.

The man is accused of planning to meet the girl and her friend near 62nd and Vine Streets, but the girl’s parents reported the online messaging to police.

Officers arrested the man, who had condoms, 10 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia with him. He was booked into jail on suspicion of child enticement with an electronic device and attempted kidnapping.
