More than 200 dead cattle and another 200-plus in questionable condition were found on property in Fillmore County, Nebraska, investigators said late Thursday .

Cody Thomas, spokesman for the Nebraska State Patrol, said that the State Patrol, the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska Brand Committee are investigating.

Investigators served a search warrant on a rural property where they found more than 200 dead cattle and one dead horse. Additionally, more than 200 cattle were found to be in questionable to poor condition, Thomas said. Those animals were taken to a nearby ranch for monitoring and care.

The Nebraska Brand Committee is investigating possible livestock thefts and violations of state laws governing branding of livestock.

No further details were released.

The rural property under investigation is near Exeter, Nebraska, which is west of Lincoln.
