Jim Peschong

Lincoln Police Chief Jim Peschong is retiring Friday after a 40-year career in law enforcement.

Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler announced Tuesday that he has appointed an interim police chief to replace Chief Jim Peschong, who is retiring Friday.

Assistant Chief Brian Jackson will serve as interim chief, effective Saturday.

A search is underway for a permanent replacement for Peschong, who is retiring after a 40-year career in law enforcement. Peschong announced last November that he was retiring in early 2016.

Jackson is not applying for the permanent position. He has been the assistant chief for four years, commanding the operations and support divisions.

Jackson’s law enforcement career began in 1985 with the Hastings Police Department. He joined the Lincoln Police Department in 1987.
