An intoxicated man told Lincoln police officers that he was beaten by two roommates after he struggled with a dog in the home.

After officers sorted out the details of the disturbance, two men were ticketed on suspicion of assault, and their inebriated roommate was cited on suspicion of animal cruelty.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday just south of downtown on 18th Street.

A 22-year-old man said he came home and found his dog injured and the dog’s kennel area splattered with blood. A roommate was passed out on the couch.

The dog’s owner and another roommate woke the sleeping man and asked what had happened to the animal. The man said he had trouble getting the dog into its kennel and a struggle ensued, resulting in the man being bitten on the hand.

The two roommates then assaulted the intoxicated man for harming the dog. The dog, which was limping and bloodied, was taken to a veterinarian by an animal control officer.
