A 37-year-old O’Neill, Nebraska man — hospitalized for injuries he suffered in a stabbing incident Saturday that killed his wife — was arrested without incident Monday at the Nebraska Medical Center, according to the Holt County Attorney’s Office.
Eduardo Barajas Quintero was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Guadalupe Verdin Quintero, also 37. Brent Kelly, the Holt County attorney, said Eduardo Quintero is suspected of intentionally causing his wife’s death, but without premeditation.
Guadalupe Quintero died Saturday night of multiple knife wounds. Police had been called to a home in O’Neill about 9 p.m., and the husband and wife were both taken to St. Anthony Hospital in O’Neill, where Guadalupe was pronounced dead a short time later.
The county attorney’s office requested an autopsy.
Holt County Sheriff deputies will transport Eduardo Quintero back to Holt County. Bail was set at $2 million.
O’Neill police, the Nebraska State Patrol and the county attorney’s office will continue investigating.
