A former Millard North High School teacher pleaded no contest Thursday to attempted first-degree sexual assault and to coercing a teen into providing child pornography.

Bryan M. Black, 37, of Papillion was found guilty by Douglas County District Judge Shelly Stratman, who will sentence him in April. He faces anywhere from three to 100 years in prison. Millard Public Schools officials fired Black after his arrest.

According to Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine and his deputy, Molly Keane:

Black, who is married and has a young son, started a relationship with a 15-year-old freshman that culminated in sexual contact last February and March.

Black asked the girl to send him nude photos, touched her breasts and digitally penetrated her at the school.

Black’s attorney, Joseph Howard of Omaha, has said that his client is a decorated military veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Black was both a military police officer and a paramedic, Howard said, and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Black was a substitute teacher for Millard Public Schools during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years, according to the Nebraska Department of Education.
