A clerk at a convenience store and gas station in the Benson area was shot early Saturday during a dispute at the business, police said.

Octavis Williams, 40, was wounded during what police say started as a minor verbal altercation with a man outside the Bucky’s at 58th Street and Northwest Radial.

Williams, who was shot once, was taken in critical condition to the Nebraska Medical Center, Lt. Jim Pauly said. The injury is not life-threatening, police said.

Williams was shot about 2 a.m. The assailant fired rounds outside and inside the store.

Police had not announced the arrest of the assailant as of late Saturday. The man left the scene in a dark sport utility vehicle that was northbound on 60th Street.

Robbery is not believed to be a motive.
