A 30-year-old Council Bluffs man was critically injured late Thursday night when his SUV crashed at the southbound Interstate 680 curve to eastbound I-80 in Omaha.
The crash occurred at 11:35 p.m.
Southbound I-680 to the eastbound I-80 ramp was closed until 1 a.m. Friday and traffic was diverted while investigators, including Nebraska State Patrol troopers, worked the crash scene.
Police said their investigation found that a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer SUV driven by Ryan Perez was traveling on the I and L Streets on-ramp to eastbound I-80 when it left the roadway. The SUV proceeded across the grass median and the West Center Road on-ramp to eastbound I-80.
Perez was listed in fair condition Friday afternoon.
Police said the SUV then struck a concrete barrier, flipped over the barrier and stopped in the middle of the southbound I-680 to eastbound I-80 ramp.
Authorities said Perez suffered a fractured back. Perez, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Nebraska Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
