Omaha police have arrested four people in connection with the shooting of a 19-year-old man near 16th and Phelps Streets last week.

Police were called to the area, which is near Spring Lake Golf Course in South Omaha, just before 1:50 a.m. May 16.

When officers arrived, they found Rico Minzel with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition. He remained there Friday. A hospital spokesman said he could not release Minzel’s condition.

Minzel told officers he was walking outside when he was sprayed with Mace and shot.

The four people who were arrested:

  • A 20-year-old man on suspicion of first-degree assault, robbery, use of a weapon to commit a felony and possession of a stolen firearm.
  • An 18-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted felony assault, accessory to a felony and robbery.
  • Two 16-year-old males on suspicion of robbery.
