A 20-year-old Lincoln man was jailed after a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 80 that began near downtown.

The chase began about 7:50 p.m. Monday when a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol spotted a westbound 2003 Ford Mustang traveling in excess of 120 mph on Interstate 80 near the 10th Street exit in Lincoln.

Another trooper pulled over to wait for the Mustang and began a pursuit when it passed him. The Mustang exited I-80 and began traveling north on Northwest 48th Street, reaching a speed of 132 mph.

The trooper discontinued the pursuit out of a concern for public safety. A short time later, the Mustang was seen turning east into a neighborhood. The trooper found the driver while he was parking the vehicle in front of a home on Northwest 45th Street.

The man was arrested on suspicion of speeding, willful reckless driving and operating a vehicle to avoid arrest.
