FAIRFIELD – The Sandy Creek Cougars hosted the 2015 Southern Nebraska Conference Wrestling Championships on Friday with 10 teams making their way to Fairfield.

The No. 1 rated team in Class C1, the David City Scouts, ran away to the SNC title scoring 188.5 points to second place Wilber-Clatonia’s 155.5.

Wilber-Clatonia is No. 8 in tournament rankings and No. 7 in duals according to the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association rankings.

Finishing third was Fillmore Central with 108.5, fourth went to Sutton with 106 and the Centennial Broncos, ranked No. 9 in tournaments and No. 8 in duals, took fifth with 100.5 points.

The FC Panthers had three overall champions as No. 1 ranked Jarrod Hinrichs at 285 defeated Riley Homolka of Wilber-Clatonia by pin in 48 seconds to keep his record unblemished at 46-0.

The Panthers also got a conference champion at 138 when Davis Jacobson decisioned Tyler Hergott of Thayer Central 7-3 and improved his record to 35-5.

At 220 pounds, Trevor Adams, rated as the No. 6 wrestler in his class, pinned Austin Haufle of Wilber-Clatonia in 1:24 to take the 200 pound bracket. Adams will take a 42-1 record to districts which start Friday in Central City.

The Panthers also got a second place from Wyatt Schiermeyer (35-4) at 152 and a pair of fourth places from Parker Trowbridge (22-19) at 120 and Cody Whitehead (15-17) at 132.

Centennial’s Doyle Trout (38-3) defeated Melvin Hernandez of David City 23-8 to capture the 126 pound bracket. Trout is the No. 1 rated wrestler in his weight bracket in Class C.

The Broncos only other conference champion was crowned at 145 as Steven Bader (38-6) was a 6-0 winner over Dustin Papa of David City in the title bout. Bader is the No. 6 wrestler in his weight class.

At 182 Cory Kennedy (35-5) took second place as he lost his title bid to Nick Maschman of W-C by the final score of 5-3. Kennedy is No. 4 at 182.

At 120, Gavin Avery (17-19) was third, Dylan Nantkes (8-17) at 160 was fourth and Bryce Wright (23-17) also took fourth at 220.

Centennial, Fillmore Central and Cross County/Osceola will all be in action next Friday and Saturday at the district tournament hosted at Central City High School.
