LINCOLN — Kristi Allen just wanted her team to take it one point at a time.

Down 14-11 in the final set, Allen knew her Blue Hill squad had no other options.

"We told (server Emily Meyer) to get it over and in, we'll rely on our defense ... and our hitters, we told them to keep hitting the ball. You can't tip, you got to hit," Allen said.

That strategy worked as the Bobcats scored the final five points of the match to pull out an 18-25, 26-24, 25-18, 17-25, 16-14 victory over Stanton in the Class C-2 state semifinals Friday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The win moves Blue Hill into Saturday's 1 p.m. at the Devaney Center against Hartington Cedar Catholic, which upended Superior.

Blue Hill's comeback capped a match marked by huge swings in momentum.

Stanton won the first set and led 11-3 in the second before Blue Hill put together a 14-4 run and won the second and third sets.

Blue Hill led 11-4 in the fourth before Stanton turned the match around by winning 21 of the final 27 points of the set. The Mustangs then led 11-8 in the fifth after a Jessie Brandl ace before putting themselves at match point at 14-11.

But that left just enough time for one more momentum swing. A Kacey Allen kill made it 14-13, Rylee Kohmetscher's ace block tied the score. Another block put Blue Hill in front, then Kohmetscher's 14th kill put the Bobcats in the state final for the first time since 2004.

It snapped Stanton's 27-match winning streak. The Mustangs had won the C-2 state title in 2016.

"We just didn't finish when we needed to finish the fifth set," Stanton coach Tracy Kuester-Burtwistle said. "They kept creeping in. The ball wasn't falling the way it needed to fall in our court."

Blue Hill had lost in the opening round of state two years ago and reached the semifinals last season. Now it gets to play in the final.

"Each year we've gotten a little fit further," coach Allen said. "They put in a lot of time and effort to get her and they were not going t be turned away."
