Here are two finalists for The World-Herald’s Nebraska high school athlete of the year award, which will be announced Sunday, June 30. Each day leading up to the announcement, we will release two more nominees until all 12 are revealed.

Baylor Scheierman, Aurora

The South Dakota State basketball signee was the only player on the All-Nebraska first team in football and basketball. The lefty passer set state records with 3,923 yards, 59 touchdowns and 255 completions for the Class C-1 state champions, then averaged 21.6 points and 9.8 rebounds for the state semifinalist Huskies.

Jaden Ferguson, Lincoln Southwest

The Northwest Missouri volleyball recruit also set the Silver Hawks’ career scoring record in girls basketball with 1,314 points. She was All-Nebraska second team and Class A first team in basketball and Class A second team in volleyball. She was also sixth in the Class A shot put.
