COUNCIL BLUFFS — On the day before her most impressive performance of the season, Ashtyn Miller didn’t spend it toiling away at the ballpark.

“I actually went to the pool,” the Council Bluffs Lewis Central pitcher said with a smile.

After a welcome day off, Miller fired a no-hitter as the Class 4-A No. 9 Titans handed Glenwood its first loss in resounding fashion, 10-0 in six innings Thursday.

Miller said it was a long ride home from Denison after the Titans lost there 5-2 on Tuesday night.

“That was not a good feeling,” she said. “I don’t think it was my best (performance). My spins weren’t on as good as they could have been.”

Miller said she arrived at the ballpark Thursday fresh and with a clear mind. The Buena Vista recruit struck out eight, walked two and hit a batter, improving her record to 8-2. Lewis Central improved to 11-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play, while Glenwood dropped to 9-1 and 7-1.

“I think Ashtyn was on tonight,” Glenwood coach Kylee Stanton said. “We have been so good about being ourselves this year and being a group and just enjoying the sport. Tonight it was frustration and in our heads and second-guessing, and I think it just got the best of us.

We just started chasing and we didn’t stay disciplined.”

Gabby Martinez had two hits and four RBIs, Josie Shudak had two hits and two RBIs, and freshman Haley Bach finished 2 for 2 with an RBI and four runs scored for the Titans.
