At least one Class A state tournament bid on the boys and girls sides will go through North Platte after both teams earned the right to host district tournaments next week. That, and other Class A district brackets, were released Wednesday by the Nebraska Schools Activities Association. Class B subdistrict pairings came out Tuesday.

The Class A No. 10 North Platte boys are paired in the A-7 district with fifth-ranked Lincoln North Star, while the North Platte girls host an A-6 field in which they are the only team above .500. It’s one of three schools to have home districts for both boys and girls — Omaha Westside and Lincoln Southwest are the others. Top 10 No. 1 Westside hosts the boys A-3 tournament, beginning with a Monday match against Omaha BensonA win would put the Warriors in a district final against the winner of Omaha Central and Papillion-La Vista, a pair of teams that started the season in the ratings and have rosters capable of a postseason run.

Two-time defending Class A champion Omaha Marian is the top seed on the girls side, hosting an A-1 district that also features No. 10 Millard South. The Crusaders will face Elkhorn South on Thursday in a match up of the top two teams in the state.

Seven district winners and a wild card will make up the Class A fields for the state tournament May 9 through 15 at Creighton’s Morrison Stadium. In Class B, eight subdistrict champions and the next eight in the power points comprise the district final round May 5. District final winners advance to state.

Both the Elkhorn South boys and girls are ranked No. 1 in Class B, but each has subdistrict challenges.

The Storm boys are in the B-2 field at crosstown rival Elkhorn (11-1). Elkhorn South handed the Antlers their only loss of the year 2-0 in the season-opener for both. The Storm girls host the B-3 subdistrict that also features second-ranked Gretna and No. 3 Omaha Skutt.
