Avante Dickerson

Avante Dickerson is the No. 1 player in the state for the 2021 recruiting class.

Omaha Westside’s Avante Dickerson continues to add to his national list of scholarship offers.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound defensive back, kick returner and running back added one from Ohio State on Tuesday. That comes on the heels of Power Five offers he received in the spring from Nebraska (March 29), LSU (April 23) and Iowa (April 29).

“I’m excited to get an offer from Ohio State,” Dickerson said. “They produce a lot of NFL players at defensive back, and for them to think I can play there is a blessing.”

Ohio State can tout its success in producing draft picks. The Buckeyes have had five defensive backs selected in the first round of the NFL draft since 2016.

Dickerson attended Ohio State’s camp on June 6 and plans to attend Nebraska’s Friday Night Lights camp on June 14 and the Deion Sanders Prime 21 camp on July 20. He will also try to get to Notre Dame this summer.

Dickerson’s other offers include Minnesota, Iowa State, Akron and South Dakota State. He took two game-day visits to Nebraska, one to Iowa and one to Iowa State last fall. Michigan, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Kansas State have all recently shown interest.

Dickerson is the No. 1 player in the NebHSRecruiting player rankings for the 2021 class. He has gained roughly 20 pounds in a year and had an impressive camp season last summer, running a 4.37-second 40-yard dash at a camp in Missouri and at Nebraska last June.

Dickerson was a first-team All-Class A selection as a defensive back, the only sophomore to earn that honor last season.
