Norris senior Ashton Hausmann announced Friday his commitment to walk on with the Husker football program.

“Playing at Nebraska has always been a dream of mine, and the staff made me feel at home,” he said. “It would be stupid of me not to do it (commit to NU), because something special is going to happen in the next few years.”

Hausmann chose to walk on at NU over a Division I scholarship offer from Incarnate Word, an FCS school in San Antonio. Division II schools Minnesota State and Chadron State offered, along with Virginia Tech as a walk-on.

“A lot of schools wanted to see my senior tape before they pulled the trigger.”

Hausmann was Norris’ primary running back during his junior season. He ran for 1,001 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight games last year. That included a single-game total of 341 yards. He also had top-10 track times in the state in the 100 meters (10.81 seconds) and 200 meters (21.99).

He will likely start his career at Nebraska on defense.

“I’ve been talking to Coach (Travis) Fisher a lot, and he sees me as a safety or nickel back, but I’m willing to play wherever they need me.”
