There are 124 football teams at the FCS level, and some of them — especially those nearby — recruit the state of Nebraska at a high level.

That means there are Nebraskans all over the rosters of these programs. ​In 2017 there were 42 Nebraskans on rosters of FCS schools. This year there are 38, but many of them play prominent roles.

With the start of the season coming this weekend, here is a look at which Nebraskans appeared on the initial depth charts of these teams and are in line to make a major impact.

South Dakota State

Nebraskans on the roster: 16 (20 last year)

Nebraskans on the depth chart: 11 (10 last year)

» Listed as the starter at free safety, Makiah Slade (Lincoln Northeast) played in the final eight games in 2017 with starts against Western Illinois and Northern Iowa in the FCS playoffs.

» As a redshirt freshman in 2017, Cade Johnson (Bellevue West) set a single-season record with 839 kickoff return yards and led the team with 1,166 all-purpose yards. He was one of 11 players named to the Missouri Valley All-Newcomer team for offense in 2017.

» Sophomore Josh Manchigiah (Papillion-La Vista South) was a backup safety as a redshirt freshman in 2017.

» Marquise Lewis (Omaha North) hauled in 20 receptions for 348 yards and four touchdowns in 2017. He also led the team in punt return yards.

» Senior Isaac Wallace (Ralston) ranked second on the team in rushing with 516 yards in 2017.

» Luke Sellers (Papillion-La Vista South) saw action in 14 games as a backup fullback in 2017 after redshirting the previous year.

» Sophomore Jack Domandle (Millard West) played in five games as a backup center in 2017.

» Ryan Earith (Papillion-La Vista South) led the team with five sacks and eight tackles for loss in his sophomore season.

» Junior Zach Dorgan (Ralston) added depth on the defensive line in 2017.

» Eric Kleinschmit (Crofton) started six games and played in 13 as a junior linebacker last year.

» Redshirt freshman Jake Wolfe (Millard West) is listed as the backup kicker.

South Dakota

» Junior Trystn Ducker (Bellevue West) was one of five true freshmen to play for the Coyotes in 2016. In 2017 he was one of 33 coyotes that competed in all 13 games. Last year he averaged a team-high 20 yards on 11 kickoff returns.

» Tyler Ciurej (Bellevue West) played in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2017. He was the starting center in each of the final 10 games. He was one of 11 players named to the MVFC All-Newcomer team for offense in 2017.

» DeValon Whitcomb (Omaha North) enters his junior season listed as a starter at defensive tackle. He missed the 2017 season due to injury.

North Dakota Sate

Nebrakans on the roster: 3 (5)

Nebraskans on the depth chart: 2 (4)

» Senior quarterback Easton Stick (Omaha Creighton Prep) enters the season as a team captain for the third straight year. Stick has started 29 straight games for the Bison.

» Jalen Allison (Papillion La-Vista) has played in 43 games in his career. He has started 28 of 29 the past two seasons at cornerback. Allison missed the 2018 national championship game due to injury.

» Fifth-year senior Peter Read (Lincoln Southeast) registered 34 tackles in 2017, including 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.

» Junior Taylor Murph (Ralston) saw action in six games as a backup running back last year, recording 125 yards on 41 carries and a touchdown.

Northern Iowa

Nebraskans on the roster: 3 (3)

The Nebraskans on the UNI roster include: sophomore quarterback Christian Ellsworth (Grand Island Northwest), freshman tight end Jayden Scott (Omaha Concordia) and freshman defensive lineman Caden Houghtelling (Cambridge).

North Dakota

Nebraskans on the depth chart: 1 (0)

» Junior Alex Cloyd (Millard South) appeared in all 11 games last year and started six at tight end. He led all tight ends on the team with eight catches for 147 yards.

Northern Colorado

Nebraskans on the roster: 1 (0) — freshman offensive lineman Kevin Williams (Omaha North)
