Dalys Beanum

Dalys Beanum caught 50 passes for 757 yards and eight touchdowns last season for Millard West. He's also a cornerback for the Wildcats and expects to play defense on the next level.

Dalys Beanum became the latest “Nebraska Jack” on Thursday when he committed to South Dakota State. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound athlete from Millard West follows Isaac Appleget (Lincoln Southeast) and Abe Hoskins (Omaha Central) in joining the Jackrabbits’ 2020 recruiting class.

“They have a great coaching staff, and the relationships my family and I have made with them was great,” Beanum said. “I talked to my family about it, and SDSU is where I wanted to be, and I thought to myself, why wait it out when everyone there has treated me great and cared about me?”

Beanum chose the Jackrabbits over scholarship offers from Kent State, Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri State.

“Out of my four offers, SDSU was easily my top, and it wasn’t very close,” Beanum said. “There are so many things to like about SDSU. The coaching staff actually cares about your life outside of football, and they have a great culture.”

Beanum was Millard West’s No. 1 target as a wide receiver last season, catching 50 passes for 757 yards and eight touchdowns. Halfway through the season he started playing cornerback, and he finished the season with four interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

“They see me as sometimes playing wide receiver,” Beanum said, “but actually it is defensive back they mainly loved about me, so I plan on going there as a defensive back.”

Beanum is a three-sport athlete who also plays basketball and runs track.
