McCook linebacker Zach Schlager commits to Colorado State

Zach Schlager committed to Colorado State as a linebacker, but he ran for 1,134 yards as a quarterback for McCook last season.

McCook linebacker Zach Schlager has committed to Colorado State. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder is rated as the top linebacker in the 2018 NebHSRecruiting player rankings.

"I'm excited about being a Ram," Schlager said.

Schlager made 119 tackles in 2016 and rushed for 1,134 yards from his quarterback position on 116 carries last year. He was also selected to The World-Herald's All-Nebraska football team.

Schlager's brother Jake played in all 13 games and started 12 at safety for Colorado State last season, recording 72 tackles, an interception, 2.0 tackles for loss, three pass defenses and a fumble recovery.

"Fort Collins has become a second home to me with my brother having been there for four years," Schlager said. "They are building a new stadium, and I feel like I can come in there and play early."

The Rams recruited Schlager as a weakside linebacker while other schools recruited him as an athlete.
