Lincoln Southeast lineman Xavier Trevino to walk on at Nebraska

Lincoln Southeast's Xavier Trevino picked the Huskers over scholarship offers from Division II schools Southwest Minnesota State, Minnesota State and Missouri Western.

Lincoln Southeast offensive lineman Xavier Trevino announced Saturday his commitment to walk on with Nebraska.

“I chose NU because I’ve worked my whole life to play at the top, and it’s even more of a dream to represent my state and play at Nebraska,” Trevino said. “The conversations I’ve had with Coach G (offensive line coach Greg Austin) were unlike any other coach. I can tell he had passion, and truly believes in me as a player. It’s a great opportunity.”

The 6-foot-2, 290-pound rising senior picked the Huskers over scholarship offers from Iowa Western, Southeast Missouri State, Minnesota State-Mankato, Augustana, Lindenwood, Southwest Minnesota State, Minnesota State and Missouri Western.

Trevino, who attended Nebraska's inaugural Pipeline Camp, said he wants to get better with his hand placement and get faster with his footwork.

“I think Coach G obviously sees me as an interior OL, but I’ll play wherever he wants me to,” Trevino said.

Trevino is the second known walk-on in NU’s 2020 recruiting class.
