Avante Dickerson

Avante Dickerson attended two Nebraska games last fall and received an offer from the Huskers on Friday.

Omaha Westside’s Avante Dickerson continued his impressive run of scholarship offers Friday when he received one from Nebraska.

“It’s amazing to get an offer from your home-state school,” said Dickerson, a prospect in the 2021 class. “The coaches are amazing there, and I love the atmosphere.”

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound defensive back, kick returner and running back, previously received scholarship offers from Minnesota, Iowa State and South Dakota State. He took two game-day visits to Nebraska, one to Iowa and one to Iowa State last fall.

Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Kansas State and LSU have shown interest in recent weeks.

Dickerson said he plans to attend Nebraska’s Friday Night Lights camp again this summer, and he’ll try to get to Notre Dame.

Dickerson was a first-team All-Class A selection as a defensive back, the only sophomore to earn that honor this season. Dickerson has said previously he isn’t too concerned with what position he’ll play in college.

“Coaches see me as a speed guy with length, so right now they are recruiting me as an athlete,” he said last month.

Dickerson is the No. 1 player in the NebHSRecruiting player rankings for the 2021 class. He has gained roughly 20 pounds in a year and had an impressive camp season last summer, running a 4.37-second 40-yard at a camp in Missouri last June.

Dickerson is the second in-state recruit Nebraska has offered in the 2021 class. Elkhorn South lineman Teddy Prochazka received an offer in the fall. Nebraska also has offers out to to two in-state prospects for 2020 — Omaha Burke’s Xavier Watts and Bellevue West’s Zavier Betts — after signing five from the state in 2019.
