The 12th annual Heartland Hoops Classic tips off Saturday at 9 a.m. when Loomis faces Riverside at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island.
The showcase game is Wasatch Academy vs. Sunrise Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. Sunrise Christian is No. 13 in the latest USA Today Super 25 Ratings, while Wasatch is one spot behind.
Here is a look at the players to watch, including some of the top uncommitted players:
9 a.m., Loomis vs Riverside: Senior Aaron Dow leads Loomis in scoring and rebounding. The 6-foot-2 guard is averaging a double-double with 23.5 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Freshman Quinn Johnson is second on the Wolves in scoring averaging (13.2 points per game). In five of his 19 games this season, Johnson has connected on at least five 3-pointers — including 9 of 12 from behind the arc against Maywood in early January. Junior guard Tredyn Prososki leads the Chargers with 16.6 points per game. Senior post Joseph Bloom is second on the team in scoring (16.2). Sophomore Michael Bernt, who tied Prososki's record of 13 3-pointers in a game earlier this season, is averaging 13 points per game.
10:45 a.m., BRLD vs. Auburn: Two sophomores are the stars entering this game. BRLD sophomore Lucas Vogt is a dynamic point guard that can put his team on his back and score in bunches. Auburn sophomore guard Cam Binder is a capable scorer and has a smooth stroke from the 3-point line.
12:30 p.m., Cozad vs Aurora: South Dakota State signee Baylor Scheierman is averaging 21.8 points per game. Cozad sophomore forward Kadyn Marhenke is averaging 19 points in the Haymakers' past four games.
2:15 p.m., Omaha Skutt vs. Hastings Adams Central: Omaha Skutt is led by junior Tyson Gordon, who holds a scholarship offer from Division II Wayne State. Adams Central junior forward Haggan Hilgendorf is averaging 16.4 points per game and also holds a scholarship offer from Wayne State.
4 p.m., North Bend Central vs. Grand Island Central Catholic: North Bend Central is led by two seniors. Tanner Wietfeld is the Tiger's leading scorer, averaging 16.2 points per game, while senior John Emanuel is averaging 15.6 per game. GICC senior Jack Goering leads the Crusaders at 14.7 points per game.
5:45 p.m., Bennington vs. York: Bennington senior Cooper Prososki leads the Badgers with 16.8 points per game, while senior guard Karson Gansebom averages 15.2 per game. York senior Brady Danielson is a Division II Northern State signee.
7:30 p.m., Wasatch Academy vs. Sunrise Christian Academy: Wasatch forward Tristan Enaruna holds scholarship offers from Creighton, Texas Tech, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Illinois and Miami. Bernardo Da Silva is committed to Baylor and leading scorer Tre Williams is committed to Minnesota. Sunrise also has some high-level talent. Jordan Turner is committed to Baylor, Austin Crawley to Vanderbilt and Bryce Cook to SMU. Grant Sherfield, a one-time UCLA commit, holds scholarship offers from 22 Division I programs including Kansas, Kentucky, TCU, LSU, Iowa State, Wichita State and Baylor. Junior center N'Faly Dante is the No. 11 overall player and No. 2 center in the nation in the 2020 class, according to 247 Sports composite rankings. Dante, a 6-foot-11 five-star prospect, holds scholarship offers from Kansas, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, St. John's, Arkansas, Butler, Oklahoma and Purdue.
9:15 p.m., Freeman vs. Hastings: Freeman forward Brady Ideus is an intriguing player at 6-foot-7. Hastings junior Connor Creech holds a scholarship offer from Division II Wayne State.
