Shelby-Rising City girls beat BDS for third in CRC

YORK – The Shelby Rising City Huskies built a big lead in the first half and held on for the win in girls’ consolation action at the York City Auditorium Friday afternoon.

The Huskies, rated as the No. 4 team in Class C-2, led big early and the BDS Eagles had no answers in trying to slow down 6-3 junior Chatrice White who scored 29 points in the Huskies’ 45-34 win.

The Huskies won despite 25 turnovers, however on the flip side of the coin the BDS team, which set a single game record with 10 3-point shots in last night’s game, could not get the 19-9 jumper to fall on Friday as they were just 3-17 in the loss.

White, being courted by several major colleges, had 21 of her 27 points in the first half and most of those were point-blank jumpers over the much smaller Eagle front line. White was 10-11 at the charity stripe.

BDS tried to keep the game close with scoring from Kalli Schroeder with five points and Christy Swartzendruber with four points in the first half, but the Huskies were too tough on the inside finishing with eight blocked shots in the win, limiting BDS to an outside attack.

Leading the BDS girls in scoring was Jaycie Hoins with 10 points. Schroeder finished with seven.

From the field BDS was 13-45 and from the charity stripe the Eagles were 9-14.

S-RC was 14-38 from the field and of their three 3-point attempts the Huskies connected on one.

The Huskies were 16-30 from the foul stripe.

The Eagles twice cut the Huskie lead to single digits, but could never sustain anything offensively to make a comeback.
