At a school with as much wrestling tradition as any in the state, it's hard to make history. That's just what Gideon Monette did on Saturday, winning the school's 40th state individual title - placing the tiny school in the Sandhills 11th best in the history of high school wrestling in the state.

Some of the nicest people you’ll meet live in the Sand Hills and Dan Brost enhanced that reputation. Brost, 57, died Thursday at an Omaha hospital. He had been diagnosed two years ago with cancer. His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Lariat Auditorium in Mullen.

The Broncos boys completed a come back of their own in a 40-38 thriller over Sandhills/Thedford in the first boys semifinal of the MNAC Tournament on Thursday at North Platte Community College.

Cody Blackwell sunk two clutch free throws with 7 seconds remaining to ice a 47-44 win for Paxton over Mullen in the championship game of the Paxton Holiday Tournament.
