The No. 5 Heartland Huskies (21-2) had no trouble advancing in the D1-2 Subdistrict tournament as they pulverized the Meridian Mustangs 56-17 in the first game Tuesday night.

Two area teams were looking to extend their seasons on Tuesday night at the Class D1-2 subdisrict at Fillmore Central High School.

Heartland's girls started strong against Deshler on Tuesday, leading 10-5 after one period, but then saw momentum slip away. By halftime the Dragons were up 17-12 and after three it was Deshler by eight, 25-17.

Heartland was the last team standing in a battle of Top-10 boys teams Tuesday night in Henderson. The home standing Huskies, ranked No. 5 in Class D1, bested D1's No. 6 team, Deshler, 39-34.

The Deshler Dragons were breathing fire down the Exeter-Milligan girls’ necks, but the Timberwolves held off the host 42-40 in non-conference girls action.

Giltner, Mead, Deshler, Nebraska Christian and St. Edward got together for a day of volleyball, but the best of the bunch Saturday turned out to be the host Hampton Hawks.
