The Crawford football team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 42-20 win over Morrill on Friday night in Morrill. Crawford coach John Jones was happy with the performance despite some early penalties.

The Crawford girls buried seven 3-pointers, including three from Kalen Nedella, and the Rams punched their ticket to the Nebraska state tournament next week with a 49-42 win over Leyton on Friday night in Alliance in the D2-6 district final.

Jorge Lara nailed five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Morrill boys basketball team to a come-from-behind 64-63 overtime win over Crawford.

Crawford senior Jessee Underwood poured in 15 points Friday, helping the Rams defeat Morrill 56-48 for their 14th victory of the season. Underwood said it was a gutsy win against a feisty Morrill squad.

It will be Chadron vs. Hemingford in both of the championship games of the Chadron Rotary Club’s George Watson Holiday Classic in the Chicoine Center today. The Chadron girls are 7-1 for the season and the Hemingford girls are 5-1. The Chadron boys are 6-2 and the Bobcat boys are 6-0.

Even after a five-set loss to Lawrence-Nelson in the subdistrict semifinals, Giltner refused to even consider the notion that the Hornets might not get an opportunity to defend their state championship.
