Bloomfield, you’re the new No. 1 when it comes to consecutive winning seasons. With Elkhorn’s state-record 34-year streak over — the Antlers finished 4-5 in Class B — the Eight Man-1 Bees (5-3 entering Thursday’s playoff game at Nebraska City Lourdes) — take over as the active leader at 28 consecutive years. Right behind is Class C-2’s top-ranked team, Hastings St. Cecilia, with 26.

Howells-Dodge turned to defense to create momentum early and turned the same way to steal it late in a 30-8 win over Bloomfield here Saturday.

The Bloomfield Bees didn’t have enough gas in the tank to handle a physical Heartland attack Thursday. The result was a 65-46 Huskie victory Thursday at Lincoln Southeast High School in a boys state tourney Class D1 quarterfinal game.

After its offense sputtered in the second quarter, Bloomfield focused on physicality to turn a 22-8 halftime lead into a 62-22 season-opening win here Thursday.
