For every flag thrown in Centura’s dominating win over Bayard, the Centurions made something positive happen and then some in the run game. Centura had 20 penalties for 205 yards, but totaled 541 rushing yards helped outweigh the errors. The winless Tigers could do little to nothing to slow the run game or make anything happen in their own offense attack.

The Hemingford boys picked up a win on the road Friday night, holding off Bayard 37-30. The first half of the game was a defensive battle as both teams struggled to find the net, but it was Hemingford that found an edge thanks to a couple of big threes. The Bobcats headed into halttime with a 16-12 lead.

Riding high thanks to a four-game winning streak, the Mitchell girls hoped to keep their momentum going when they faced Bayard on Tuesday night in Mitchell. The drive will continue, as the Mitchell girls downed Bayard 71-23. In the boys’ contest, Mitchell also picked up a solid win, 57-38.

The Bridgeport football team improved its season record to 5-3 on Friday night after downing Bayard 53-6. Bridgeport coach Jerrod Dean was excited after last week’s 20-0 win over Hershey and felt his players built on that success Friday night.

The Bayard girls and boys swept the team championships of the Minuteman Activites Conference Track and Field Meet on Saturday in Bayard.

Jessi Smith was a snap of the fingers short of the Class C record in the 800 meters at the 2014 state track meet. That .11 seconds has lit a fire under the Bayard junior, who now has even higher aspirations after last year’s 2:15.27.

As thrilled as Tessa Douglas was about breaking through to win her first career individual title at the Western Trails Conference Golf Tournament on Thursday at Bridgeport’s Court House & Jail Rock Golf Course, the Bayard High School senior was even more excited about her Tiger team finishing on top of the conference for the first time in school history.

The Bayard Tigers fell behind 13-0 in the first quarter and then outscored the Mitchell Tigers 38-6 in the final three quarters to register the 38-19 win in action at Mitchell Friday night.
