One-meter diving champions were crowned Thursday at the Metro and Heartland conference meets.
Vinny Malene of Millard South and Abi Knapton of Omaha Marian won the titles at the Metro meet at Millard South. Malene edged Patriots teammate Zach Boyd by 3.15 points with a total of 400.60.
Knapton defeated state leader Jessica Warak of Bellevue West 448.55 to 438.55. Knapton’s teammate Kelly Straub, who also was ahead of her on the season leaders list, was third at 428.15.
Defending girls state champion Taylor Carter of Marian finished fourth with 418.60 points. It was the first 11-dive meet of the season for Carter, who has been recovering from an injury most of the season.
Defending state champion Austin Alexander of Lincoln Northeast won the Heartland boys competition at Lincoln Southwest with a score of 463.85. Alexander is the defending boys state champion, but has been battling ankle injuries in recent weeks.
Heartland girls champion Abbi Rouse of Lincoln East finished with a score of 346.20. The state championship meet Feb. 25 at the Devaney Center in Lincoln.
