The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association held its 50th annual awards banquet last Saturday in Cedar Rapids. Western Iowa winners:
District coaches of the year — Class 2-A Southwest District: Randy Snyder, Carroll Kuemper. Class 3-A Southwest District: Steve Daeges, Harlan. Class 3-A Northwest District: Andy Osborne, Sioux City Heelan. Class 4-A West District: Lee Toole, CB Lewis Central.
College coach of the year — 2-year colleges: Marc Rardin, Iowa Western.
Assistant coach of the year — West District: Steve Koester, CB Lewis Central.
Umpire of the year — State: Steve Shantz, Greenfield. Southwest District: Shantz, Greenfield.

Shenandoah junior Logan Hughes passed 1,000 points for her career Tuesday when she scored 26 points in a 53-22 win over Fremont-Mills. Hughes, who is averaging 20.3 points this season, ran her career total to 1,013 points.
Sidney senior Cameron Whitehead passed 1,000 points Tuesday when he scored 18 points in a 46-35 win over East Mills. Whitehead, who is averaging 13.3 points this season, increased his career total to 1,011 points.
Evan Wiebers, Denison-Schleswig: The senior’s 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Monarchs their only lead of the night and a 64-63 win over Harlan Community.
Trey Nelson, Exira-EHK: The junior’s layup at the buzzer gave the Spartans a 53-51 win over CAM.
Jessup Lake, Logan-Magnolia: Scored 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 62-35 win over Missouri Valley.
Thomas Conn, Underwood: Had 23 points and nine rebounds in a 58-50 Western Iowa Conference win over AHSTW.
Hannah Vial, Red Oak: The senior made 8 of 16 from 3-point range in a 30-point effort as the Tigers beat Council Bluffs St. Albert 78-50.
