COUNCIL BLUFFS — Abraham Lincoln coach Katie Darrington said she stressed pouncing early on visiting crosstown rival Thomas Jefferson in the Class 5-A Region 2 regional round just as her team tries to do against every opponent.

And the Lynx did just that in every set on the way to a 25-10, 25-12, 25-20 sweep of the Yellow Jackets to advance to within a win of the state tournament.

A.L., the state’s 11th-ranked team, led 9-1 in Game 1, 6-1 in Game 2 and 5-1 in the final set.

Elaina Bohnet led the Lynx with 13 kills, while Julia Wagoner had nine and Jillian Shanks added six.

Darrington said she liked the pace her team played with.

“That’s what we talk about: Let’s come out and jump on people,” she said. “We try to run that faster-tempo offense. I think we did a really nice job with that.”
