Coach’s outlook: “The Bears graduated a number of seniors and will need to replace All-Nebraska WR Vance Janssen, all-state LB Ian Mertlik, and OL-DL leader Casey Harper. Ethan Cox returns, after a record setting season at QB, as well as a number of players with varsity experience. Individuals will need to step up at the running back and wide receiver positions. The O-line returns some experience and should improve throughout the season. Blair’s 3-5 defense will be led by senior Zane Boswell and returns a number of key players. The strength of the defense will be the core of linebackers with a big defensive line led by Jordan Groves in front of them. Ethan Cox returns as a leader in the secondary. The kicking game will need someone to step up and replace Sean Petersen.

The incoming sophomore class is coming off a successful ninth grade season and should help provide some quality depth at multiple positions. Blair is looking to build on its 7-4 season in 2014 and there is a lot of excitement surrounding the program.”

Crete (7-3)

Coach: Reed Manstedt, first year

Returning starters: Ethan Bond, L, 245, Sr.; Carlos Dominguez, L, 240, Sr.; Tyrone Smith, L, 250, Sr.; Jose Marquez, RB-DE, 190, Sr.; Jesse Guerra, L, 200, Sr.; Frank Bello, FB-DL, 155, Sr.; Rhett Harms, QB-DB, 200, Jr.; Ethan Sherman, RB-LB, 170, Jr.; Wyatt Bodfield, TE-DE, 190, Jr.

Coach’s outlook: “The strength of this year’s team will be our offensive line; we will return five players on the offensive line who started at least one game last year. We will need to replace a very strong/talented senior class from last year. Rhett Harms and Ethan Sherman are two younger players who I expect to step in and have great years both offensively and defensively. If we can fill a few holes in the skilled positions area I expect us to be very competitive next year.”

Elkhorn (6-4)

Coach: Mark Wortman, 36th year

Returning starters: Kyle Janvrin, QB-DB, 6-1, 175, Sr.; Drew Smith, TB-DB, 5-10, 1880, Sr.; Alex Schiefelbein, SE-DB, 6-0, 165, Jr,

Coach’s outlook: “We have some skilled players returning but our offensive and defensive lines have been depleted by graduation.”

Elkhorn Mount Michael (4-5)

Coach: Jon Borer, fourth year

Returning starters: Alex Miklas, RB-DB, Sr.; Matt Digick, K, Sr.; Caiden Groff, WR-LB, Jr.; Patrick Halpin, L, Jr.; Sam Clements, L, Jr.; Reilly Jackson, L, Sr.; Drew Goddard, L-LB, Jr.; Jeff Petry, WR-DB, Jr.; Ryan Riddle, WR-DB, Jr.; Matt Mumby, RB-DB, Sr.

Coach’s outlook: “We graduated 13 seniors off of last year’s team that won more games than any Mount Michael team since 2004. We will be young, with only six seniors, but we will have 20 juniors and they are a talented group. I believe that we are definitely moving in the right direction.”

Elkhorn South (7-3)

Coach: Guy Rosenberg, fourth year

Returning starters: Moses Bryant, RB, 5-11, 180, So.; Shane Henderson, T-T, 6-0, 295, Sr.; Tanner Meyo, MLB, 6-1, 195, Sr.; Dixon Loeffler, L, 6-2, 270, Jr.; Connor Childs, RB, 6-1, 195, Sr.; Garrett Streeks, CB, 6-0, 165, Sr.; Kolton Bingham, FS, 6-2, 175, Sr.; Scott Ritter, DE, 6-4, 220, Sr.; Connor Ballard, CB, 6-2, 180, Sr.; Andrew Hamik, DT, 5-8, 220, Sr.

Coach’s outlook: “To get to where we want to be, we need to be a dominant team running the football. Offensive Line Coach George Drinnin Sr. is a key part of that puzzle. In 2011, the team ran for 73.7 yards a game at 2.6 yards per carry. We committed to running the football during my first season at South (2012) and have made steady progress each season, moving from 169 yards a game (2012) to 219 (2013). Last year we ran for 275.7 yards per game and 6.5 yards a carry as a team. Our passing game is also getting much more efficient. Last season, we completed 57 percent of our passes at 8.6 yards per attempt. We also had a total of 13 turnovers in 10 games. We are getting more effective and explosive on offense. Our greatest challenge has been finding ways to win close games against top opponents. In 2014, we were defeated Gretna 42-35. However, we fell short against Elkhorn High, Skutt, and Beatrice and will continue to seek out every edge we can find to win close games.”

Coach’s outlook: “Summer program and installation of a new offense and defense will be a top priority.”

Coach: Kevin Stein, sixth year

Returning starters: Isaiah Daws, LB, 6-4, 185, Sr.; Christian Ellsworth, QB, 6-4, 210, Sr.; Brock Brown, CB, 6-4, 205, Sr.; Dylan Davis, L, 5-11, 230, Sr.; Jackson Evans, DE, 6-0, 220, Sr.; Brandon Gannon, WR, 5-10, 155, Sr.; Taylor Gannon, LB, 6-1, 175, Sr.; Preston Sundermeier, K, 5-9, 150, Sr.; Ryan Gill, DB, 6-1, 165, Sr.; Bryce Williams, WR, 5-8, 158, Sr.; Mark Zepeda, L, 6-1, 250, Sr.; Tanner Lierman, DB, 6-0, 170, Jr.

Coach’s outlook: “We return a good number of skill players and a couple of well-seasoned interior linemen. We have a large senior class that has stayed together and focused. Last year was our first of playing really fast uptempo football. It takes some getting used to in all three phases. We hope to settle in and learn from our mistakes. Our coaching staff also has stayed intact, which also will pay dividends.”

Sr.

Coach’s outlook: “We return experience at most skill positions. Need to replace four starters in the offensive line.”

Coach’s outlook: “We have a strong stable of linebackers coming back on defense. On offense our wide receivers and quarterback have a great deal of experience. We will rely on them. We need to develop our offensive and defensive lines as that will determine how competitive we will be.”

Lexington (3-6)

Coach: Jeff Rowan, third year

Returning starters: Seth Soderlund, WR-DB, 6-1, 175, Sr.; Trevor McKeone, QB-DB, 6-3, 195, Sr.; Allen Casteneda, WR-DB, 5-8, 160; Joe Bojarquez, NG, 6-1, 270, Sr; Josue Ayala, OL-DL, 6-1, 220, Sr.

Coach’s outlook: “We have a good group of returning players — three offensive linemen and quarterback — that will give a good nucleus to build from. Filling in key spots at running back and receivers will be important, as well as building depth in the line.”

McCook (10-2)

Coach: Jeff Gross, 18th year

Returning starters: Caleb Sheets, QB-DB, 6-2, 190, Sr.; Brett Baumbauch, SB-LB, 5-11, 170, Sr.; Jarod Bryant, WR-DB, 6-4, 175, Sr.; Luke Curl, L, 6-9, 300, Sr.; Riley Loop, L, 5-10, 235, Sr.; Matt McBride, DL, 5-11, 240, Sr.; Joe Schlagger, FS, 5-10, 175. Sr.

Coach’s outlook: “We return eight players with starting experience, five of them on defense. It will be looking to increase turnovers and negative plays. The secondary will lead this defense as we have three senior safeties who have been starting for two years. Caleb Sheets is the unquestionable leader of this football team. The offense was slowly geared around Caleb’s strengths last season. The offensive line will be a balance of experience and size.”

Coach’s outlook: “We have a core group of players with a lot of talent and it has shown itself with success at the JV level the past two seasons. Numbers and depth continue to be obstacles. Dedication and hard work over the summer could translate to a successful season.”

Norris (2-7)

Coach: Jim Jacobsen, sixth year

Returning starters: Grant Morrison, QB, Sr.; Hunter Bond, OL-DL, Sr.; Jack Hartman, OL, Sr.; Beau Bucher, TE-DE, Sr.; Max Devine, WR-DB, Sr.; Logan Armknecht, LB, Sr.; Wes Ellerbrake, OL, Sr.; Ben Harms, OL, Sr.; Parker Williams QB-DB, Jr.; Chase Bryant, R-DB, Sr.; Louis Gray, OL-DL, Sr.

Coach’s outlook: “With a great dedicated commitment in the offseason and summer, this could be a very good Class B football team. We have a tremendous amount of work to do, but we like what we have seen with the work and effort our kids have invested since the 2014 season ended. The leadership, attitude and effort our team gives daily will be the major keys to how good of a season our 2015 team has.”

Coach’s outlook: “We lost a lot of guys from last year’s state championship team, so we have some very talented guys to replace. The strength of our team should be our lines. We will need some skill guys to step up. Our defense should be very strong again, with the D-line and the secondary being strengths.”

Platteview (0-9)

Coach: Chris Stier, first year

Returning starters: Caleb May, L, 6-0, 225, Sr.; Brett Nichols, DL, 5-10, 185, Sr.; Ben Murphy, DL, 6-1, 165, Sr.; Gage Jeffers, LB, 5-7, 155, Jr..

Coach’s outlook: “We have a lot of returning starters with one year under their belts. They continued to improve themselves last season which should help with the beginning of this season. We are losing four starters from last year at crucial positions and we have to see who can step up to fill their shoes.”

Coach: Glen Snodgrass, fifth year

Returning starters: JJ Schulz, WR-S, 6-0, 185, Sr.; Marvin Lazo, T-DE, 6-2, 230, Sr.; Nic Pettygrove, Wr-DB, 5-10, 155, Sr.; Jackson Coffin, RB-DB, 5-9, 170, Sr.; Cade Zumpke, WR-CB, 6-2, 170, Sr.; Evan Ronne, WR-LB, 5-10, 175, Sr.; Joe Miller, L-DE, 6-0, 205, Sr.; Alex Kowalski, FM-LB, 6-1, 190, Jr.; Damon Kaliff, QB-DB, 5-11, 205, Jr.

Coach’s outlook: “We will be very deep at the skill positions, on offense and defense. We need to develop linebackers and offensive linemen. We will have some very talented backs with a couple of very good sophomores who will be ready to help a lot. JJ Schulz, and Marvin Lazo should be a couple of the best players in Class B. How our starting QB Damon Kaliff recovers from a knee injury will be key. An undefeated freshman team and a very talented freshman class moving up will also help with depth and the future. Offensive line depth is a big concern for us. We will have the most kids out for football at York in a long time.”
