The depth of the boys’ team is looking strong with ten or more boys projected to compete for a varsity spot.

Millard West (Colin Johnston): *Seth Hirsch, jr.; *Josh Klein, sr.; *Ryan Emmel, sr.; *Sam Harter, jr.; *Andrew Dubas, jr.; *Jeremy Hacker, jr.; *Nick Brdicko, so. Coach’s comment: We return all seven runners from last year’s state meet team and have several others who will be pushing for a varsity spot. Our overall depth will be our strength. We had a great summer of training and should be competitive.

Norfolk (Aaron Bradley): *TeJai Clausen, sr.; *Andrew Meuret, sr.; *Travis Millikan, sr.; *Noah Beardslee, sr. Coach’s comment: Norfolk will be lead by four experienced seniors this season all four of which have state meet experience. We are expecting the senior class to provide positive leadership with our younger runners to help develop/round out our top seven to 10 runners.

North Platte (Marie Brosius): Tyler Ward, sr.; Mitchell Parish, sr.; Tyler Ogden, jr.; Shay Bamesburger, jr. Coach’s comment: Last year was a tough year for the Bulldogs. They were plagued with injuries when it was crunch time. Hopefully, we can over come that this year. We have a young team with high expectations. They have put in several miles this summer and hope to see the benefits.

Omaha Benson (Mark Meier): none. Coach’s comment: We have many new faces. Very few returners, but we will improve.

Omaha Central (Elliott Evans): *Alex Tollinger, *Dylan Schufeldt. Coach’s comment: We should be pretty good with a chance to make state. Seniors Joe Saniuk and Isaiah Moore are much improved and Alex Martin also much improved.

Omaha Creighton Prep (Fr. Bob Tillman, S.J.): *John Lukowski, sr.; *Jack Slagle, so.; *Will Hanafan, jr.; *Cole Nelson, sr.; *Jake Cimino, jr.. Coach’s comment: Lost onlytwo seniors of top 11 on state championship team last season. Runners have been working hard in early season.

Omaha North (Steve Steinbruck): *Zach Lundberg, sr. Coach’s comment: Lundberg is working very hard to improve on his State medal winning performance. Many hard working individuals at the JV level trying to make the Varsity squad.

Omaha Northwest (Paul Wilson): *Wilder Vargas, sr.; Brett Hillabrand, so. Coach’s comment: We had a rough year last year and learned a lot. This year we are young, hard-working and ready to compete. We might be able to put together a solid district run to make state.

Omaha Westside (Andtrew Easton): *Alec Reilly, sr.; *Jakob Phillips, sr.; *Milo Greder, jr. Abdinasir Abdi, sr.; Levi DeVries, sr.; Sam Madson, jr. Coach’s comment: We have a veteran group that has a lot of potential. We are excited for the 2015 season

Papillion-La Vista (Joe Pilakowski): *Thomas Cahill, sr.; *Tyler Williams, jr.; *Jake Norris, so.; *Jonathan Kawula, so.; *Ethan Maas, sr. Coach’s comment: We remain young with three of our top seven only in 10th grade this fall. Healthy, we should be a solid team throughout the year, hoping to improve upon our ninth place finish at state last year

Papillion-La Vista South (Shannon Stenger): Joey McCain, sr.; *Justin Wiebelhaus, sr.; *Logan Clark, so.; *A.J. Knowles, sr. Coach’s comment: Will need guys to step up and replace four of the seven runners off of last year’s third place State team.

CLASS B BOYS

Beatrice (Cassie Manhart): *Hunter Bolden, sr.; Dylan Burenheide, sr.; Andrew Rinne, sr.; Trevir Smith, so.; Brayden Frerichs, so. Coach’s comment: We have had some nagging injuries over the summer that have hurt our training. Overall, the team is experienced, and we also have a few new recruits that will strengthen the team.

Blair (Erin Field): *Evan Wick, jr.; *Alec Wick, jr.; Collin Hoffman, sr.; Jared Bledsoe, so. Coach’s comment: We have a lot of experience and very talented runners. Key for the boys is to find four of them to work together to score well as a team. The Wick twins had a great track season and are coming back to cross country looking better than ever.

Crete (Drew Rische): Karl Proctor, sr.; Zak Keck, sr. Harrinson Vicente, so.; Ivan Ortega-Ngyuen, jr. Coach’s comment: With the largest team that we have had in years, we are anxious to find out who our top six runners will be. We have many new athletes this year who have the potential to be good long distance runners.

Elkhorn (Bob Wolf): *Austin Yardley, sr.; *Jacob Randazzo, jr.; *Seth Rohs, sr.; *Justin Hultquist, so. Coach’s comment: We have a chance to be good by the end of the season. We will need some inexperienced runners to step up.

Elkhorn Mount Michael (John Gathje): *Sam Van Haute, sr.; *Peyton Hottovy, jr.; Zach Hytrek, sr.; Nick Carson, jr. Coach’s comment: We have a solid top four, but we will need to find some help filling the fifth and sixth spots.

Elkhorn South (Tim Ebers): Mason Smalley, sr.; Josh Connerley, sr.; Jacob McNeill, jr.; Max Heng, jr. Coach’s comment: Our juniors/seniors have done a great job of leading our young kids this summer. This will be increasingly important through the season as we have a large number of freshmen and new faces in our program.

Gering (Rick Marez): *Jacey Shaul, sr.; *Ty Romey, sr.; *Tanner Walker, jr.; *Xavier Arellano, so. Coach’s comment: Varsity potential will be from the younger guys. We will lack experience in the big meets but I think the guys will be physically prepared to compete all season. They will be an exciting group to watch as we have more depth this year than we have in the last several years.

Grand Island Northwest (Kristen Welch): *Kip Jones, sr.; Mitch Fisher, jr.; Phoenix Kalinski, sr.; Topher Rosenlund, jr.; Jaydon Casillas, jr. Coach’s comment: We are returning our top five boys, so we did not take a hit. Mitch Fisher has stepped up in the off season and is going to be running with Kip Jones this year, making for a strong 1 and 2 runners. Topher Rosenlund is going to be a strong third runner for us. Then we have six boys who are fighting for the last three spots on varsity. which is creating a strong 5 and 6 runner to help add points to other teams.

Hastings (Scott Rosno): Daulten Sadd, sr.; Nate Hartwell, jr.; Nick Lewis, so. Coach’s comment: Will be balanced, but will need to see the youth of the team step up in order for the team to compete in early October. Team leader Sadd provides qualities to increase the sense of team unity.

Holdrege (Steph Fuehrer): Devin Logston, sr.; Trent Anderson, sr.; Payton Borden, jr.; Gavin Klein, so.; Auston Marshall, so. Coach’s comment: The boys have a strong desire to do well and have worked hard all summer. They should be a top three team in most all of our meets.

Lexington (Sam Jilka): *John Mark Shields, sr.; *Poli Calmo, sr.; *Alex DeSantiago, sr.; Ricardo Gaeta, jr. Coach’s comment: Quality veterans with a mix of new talent adding to the depth.

Omaha Skutt (Steve Schumacher): *Jacob Baumert, sr.; *Jonathan Camenzind, sr.; *Trevor Camenzind, sr.; *Brett Manternach, jr. Coach’s comment: Four very strong runners with some potential in our underclassmen.

Platteview (Robyn Marshall): *Chris Smith, sr.; Coach’s comment: Smith is looking strong.

Scottsbluff (Jim Barker): *Josh Hergenrader, jr.; *Collin Maag, sr.; Jesse Jaramillo, so.; *Noah Hergenrader, jr. Coach’s comment: Extremely optimistic. Have 14 boys out. Had a great summer of preparation.

Seward (Kurt Holliday): Evan Mettenbrink, jr.; Zach Potratz, jr.; Elijah Hackbart, so. Coach’s comment: We are young, but have a lot of potential. We have some good leaders with experience. We should have a solid team and we are hoping to qualify for state.

York (Eric Rasmussen): *Logan Kaliff, sr.; *Luke Stuckey, so.; *Drew Hoffmann, sr.; *Riley Wehrer, so. Coach’s comment: We return for scorers from last year’s team. Three of those were first-year cross country runners.

OTHER OMAHA-AREA BOYS

Ashland-Greenwood (Kristi Bundy): none listed. Coach’s comment: This is a building year. We have a young team that is willing to set goals and make improvements every day.

Arlington (Sara Horner): Brandon Keffer, sr.; Sam Anzalone, so.; Dylan Tyler, jr. Coach’s comment: Lack leadership and returning letter winners. Very young but enthusiastic.

Boys Town (Ron Stargel): *Austin LeBron, sr.; Coach’s comment: Overall improvement should be able to get this team to state. Very good summer.

Douglas County West (Gib Hall): Devin Hall, sr.; Brian Hall, sr.; Jonathan Kracht, sr. Coach’s comment: Solid experience group will be mixed with some young talent . Overall Should be competitive team. Coach’s comment:

Fort Calhoun (Jim Meyer): Justin Drowne, jr.; Colton Folkers, so.

Wahoo Neumann (Paul Johnson): Sean Dailey, jr.; *Dalton Specht, so. Coach’s comment: Ten new runners out this year.

Yutan (Rod Henkel): *John Grinvalds, jr.; *Jayden Graham, jr.; *Mason Timm, so. Coach’s comment: After winning all eight of our meets last year and finishing third at state, we will struggle to field a full six-boy team. Jayden, John and Mason will be strong runners, all with the potential to place at state, but finding a fourth to make our team vie for trophies will be a challenge.

CLASS A GIRLS

Bellevue East (Rachel Carraher and Collin Mink): Seriana Williams, sr. Coach’s comment: Williams is looking to do well at the district meet and qualify

Bellevue West (Craig Christians): Regan Hefner, sr.; *Bryn Estlund, sr.; Coach’s comment: Two senior leaders in Hefner and Estlund and then a wide open race for the other varsity spots. Hefner should be among the state’s best.

Fremont (Bryce Lambley): *Elle Kumm, sr.; *Vivian Sanchez, jr.; *Elizabeth Krohn, jr.; *Lindsay Seier, jr.; Alyssa Strong, sr. Coach’s comment: A lot of question marks, but we hope to be a solid team by mid-season and challenge for state meet qualification.

Kearney (Pat McFadden): *Rita Schnacker, jr.; Coach’s comment: Have 37 girls out for cross country. Will need to develop team depth in order to be as competitive as we have in the past. Rita has the potential to be a top runner in the state.

Lincoln High (Jon Dawson): Cody Selvage, jr.; MacKenzie Healey, sr.; Zoe Arnold, jr.; Cassidy Healey, so.; Julia McMahon-Cole, so. Coach’s comment: Have some depth returning this year along with a good group of young runners.

Lincoln North Star (Matt Musiel): *Diana Lado, jr.; Dina Lado, sr.; Miriam Kluck, jr.; Jasneen Ali, jr.; Brooke Horner, so.; Paige DeBrie, so.; Sydney Settles, so.; Champayne Archie, so. Coach’s comment: We’ll be in uncharted waters with four-time all-class champion Jeralyn Poe graduated. This year’s team will be very good and driven by its near-miss of qualifying for state in 2014. Could be one of the best teams in our 13-year history at North Star.

Lincoln Northeast (John Snoozy): *Amelia Baker, sr.; *Jocie Towers, sr. Coach’s comment: Need scoring depth.

Lincoln Southeast (David Nebel): *Elsa Forsberg, sr.; *Abby Johnson, jr.; *Emily Grauf, sr.; *Alex Barada, jr.; *Laura Ebers, jr. Coach’s comment: Elsa Forsberg is currently being recruited by a few D-I schools including Oklahoma State.

Lincoln Southwest (Ryan Salem): *Marissa Czapla, sr.; *Alex Schwartz, so. Coach’s comment: LSW girls need to reload after large graduation class. Look to return to state in 2015.

Millard North (Emily Janda): *Kayla Ney, sr.; Emma Clausen, jr.; Taylor Caniglia, sr.; Allie Guerra, sr. Coach’s comment: We have a strong freshmen class of girls. We are looking forward to a great season.

Millard South (Simon Falcon): *Taylor Somers, jr.; *Madison Asche, jr.; *Kate Botkin, jr. Coach’s comment: The girls cross country team will look to the leadership of juniors Taylor Somers and Kate Botkin. Somers has come off a strong summer of running and is looking to defend the girl’s individual title for Millard South. Somers also had a successful track season in which she placed fourth in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs and third in the 800 meter run at the Class A state track meet. The rest of the varsity squad is wide open for the Lady Patriots.

Millard West (Colin Johnston): *Stephanie Vanderbeek, jr.; *Kaitlyn Johnson, jr. *Camryn Larsen, jr.; *Melanie Herbers, sr.; *Lane MacNamara, so. Coach’s comment: We have a solid nucleus of girls returning from last year. That experience, with the addition of some younger runners, should make our team competitive.

Norfolk (Angie Means): *Erika Kumm, sr.; *Breanna Harthoon, sr.; *Megan Means, so. Coach’s comment: We have a team with a lot of experience. We hope to be a contender at each meet we compete in.

North Platte (Marie Brosius): Talia Martinez, sr.; Mikayla Ward, jr.; Kelaney Stalker, jr.; Ronni Dowhower, jr.; Syble Heffernan, jr. Coach’s comment: Last year was a tough year for the Bulldogs. They were plagued with injuries when it was crunch time. Hopefully, we can overcome that this year. We have a young team with high expectations. They have put in several miles this summer and hope to see the benefits.

Omaha Benson (Jess Riffner): none. Coach’s comment: We have a good group of new runners that have potential to be decent cross country runners. I am looking forward to our first race to see how they compete when in the mix with other schools.

Omaha Burke (Danny Gray): Angelika Bull, sr.; *Sam Smith, sr.; Ivanna Uribe, sr.; Mariah Laher, jr. Coach’s comment: This year we could be great, or we could falter. Our success will hinge on our experienced senior class. We have 4 seniors who, when healthy, have run pretty much every varsity meet for us since they were freshman. If they can take the reins and really show this team what hard work is we have got enough talent in the freshman-junior classes to maybe turn a corner this year. Last year we had some setbacks with injuries to three of our top seven that kind of kept us from going to state as a team.

Omaha Central (Trent Lodge): *Hawa Shatta, jr.; *Brianni Jones, jr.; *Madison Craig, jr. *McKenna Paintin, sr.; *Sammy Roberts, jr.; *Emily Zetterman, jr.; *Davina Westbrook, so. Coach’s comment: Ranked fifth in Class A. Finished fourth at state. All girls are returning to the team. Added some good freshman to the team this year also. Expected to compete for state championship this year.

Omaha North (Steve Steinbruck): Bri Crouch, jr. Coach’s comment: Very young/inexperienced, yet extremely hard working. Great group to work with.

Omaha Northwest (Paul Wilson): *Zoeie Bacon, sr.; *Dajhia Reed, sr.; *Clara Smith, so.; *Carlyle Rieff, jr.; *Nicole Schindler, jr. Coach’s comment: We were district runner-ups and 10th at state last year and everyone is back. We have experience and talent, so we will be very competitive down the stretch this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have three girls in the top 15 at state (Zoeie/Dajhia/Clara).

Omaha South (John Tripp): *Maricruz Mora, sr.; *Anita Jenkins, sr.; *Jesse Ixta, sr.; *Alondra Payan, jr.; Helen Estanislao, sr.

Omaha Westside (Theresa Gosnell): Phoebe Placzek, sr.; *Mariah Tessin, sr.; *Megan Algya, jr.; *Marta Hailu, jr.; *Kaya Miller, jr.

Papillion-La Vista South (Jeremy Haselhorst): *Anna Milton, jr.; *Ally Hausmann, so.; *Hannah Storm, jr. *Carly Bindl, sr.; *Maddie Fraley, so.; *Ashlyn Rollins, so. Coach’s comment: We had one of our best summers of training. Our ladies are excited to compete this season. The challenge will be running with a target on our backs. Last year we were able to fly under the radar and things came together perfectly at the state meet. The challenge will be to focus on the development of our pack racing style over the course of the season. We have our biggest incoming freshmen class and some of those ladies could be pushing for varsity spots before this season is over.

South Sioux City (Joe Krajicek): *Haley Fritza, sr.; *Madison Niemeier, jr. Coach’s comment: We look to be as good as we have been since I have been here. Nice blend of experience and talent combined with some newcomers who will give us a very solid top five. We will be as good as our 3-4-5-6 runners will make us.

CLASS B GIRLS

Beatrice (Cassie Manhart): Nealeigh Smith, sr.; Alison Bartholomew, so.; Brady Achtemeier, jr.; Michala Janzen, so. Coach’s comment: We have a young team but the girls worked hard in the summer and hope to see their efforts pay off during the season. We aim to place well at districts this year and perhaps qualify a couple to state.

Blair (Erin Field): Magdalene O’Brien, jr.; Katie Hoffman, jr.; Cara Penner, jr.; Mia Nielsen, jr.; Lily Johnson, so.; Devon Zurek, so. Coach’s comment: Our girls team has doubled in size this year and we have more talent this year than in past years.

Crete (Drew Rische): Emerson Andelt, sr.; Roni Miller, jr.; Alicia Miller, jr. Coach’s comment: With a mix of returning runners and athletic girls who have yet to run, we are excited to see where this season can go.

Elkhorn (Bob Wolf): *Zoey Devney, sr.; *Abby Wilkins, sr.; *Maddie Uhing, sr.; *Renata Valquier Chavez, sr.; *Kenya Faith, so.; *Christine Jacha, so. Coach’s comment: We have six runners back from team that has finished fifth at state the last two years, plus some young runners who will compete for varsity spots.

Elkhorn South (Tim Ebers): *Erin Circo, sr.; *Macie Moore, jr.; *Emily Johnson, jr.; *Lauren Kraudy, so.; *Jenna Carson, so. Coach’s comment: Our top two returning runners (Johnson and Circo) have continued to develop and improve from last season so we are excited to see how they perfom. We have a number of other girls who had a solid summer of training who have put themselves in position to compete at the varsity level.”

Grand Island Northwest (Kristen Welch): Heather Pohlmeier, sr.; Taylor Kool, sr.; Taylor Wieland, sr.; Whitney Bicknase, jr.; Dylann Luther, so. Coach’s comment: We graduated our lead runner who placed third at state last year. But we have gained Rylee and Madi Bahe who were a big part of our state medaling distance track team. Five of our top six girls are first or second year runners who are improving every week! Last year the team was seven points away from a ticket to state, fighting for that third spot with Lexington. Thus our girls are hungry for their chance at state and have been working very hard in the off season!

Hastings (Scott Rosno): *Emma Albers, so; Mara Franssen, so.; Leah Smith, so.; Phoebe Dunbar, jr. Coach’s comment: Have good selection of youth looking to replace departure of state qualifier Chloe Ferrone, but leadership experience will need to improve for team to reach full potential.

Holdrege (Steph Fuehrer): Baylee Barnett, so.; Jacee Ofeifer, jr. Coach’s comment: We are low in number of experienced runners, but have a great core of girls who have worked hard all summer.

Lexington (Sam Jilka): *Elizabeth Macias, jr.; *Bianca Hernandez, sr.; *Bianca Gomez, sr.; *Cecilia Rios, so.; *Yailin Santoyo, jr. Coach’s comment: Mix of experience and some quality newcomers that will help provide some depth to the team.

Omaha Skutt (Steve Schumacher): *Abby Lenz, sr.; *Macy Damewood, sr.; *Kelli Zavadil, so. Coach’s comment: Return a strong team from last year’s third place. Did lose a couple of seniors and lost a varsity runner to transfer.

Platteview (Robyn Marshall): *Heather Ernst, jr. Coach’s comment: We have a young girls team but they are looking very strong

Scottsbluff (Jim Barker): *Shayleigh James, sr.; *Whitney Riesen, jr.; *Kaylee Bentley, so.; *Taylor Gipe, jr.; Krista Holzworth, jr.; Coach’s comment: Extremely optimistic. Have 13 girls out. Had a great summer of preparation.

Seward (Kurt Holliday): *Alex George, sr.; Krystin Oborny, jr.; Molly Suhr, jr.; Melaina Kroft, so. Coach’s comment: Young and inexperienced. One girl with state experience to lead the way.

York (Eric Rasmussen): *Erin Lee, sr.; *Hannah Way, jr.; *Julia Lee, so.; *Madelyn Royal, so. Coach’s comment: We return four runners from state last year, including two state medalist.

OTHER OMAHA-AREA GIRLS

Arlington (Sara Horner): Mallory Cook,sr. Coacgh’s comment: Lacking numbers, this will be abuilding seasons for us.

Douglas County West (Gib Hall): Shannon Fortune, sr. Coach’s comment: This is an entire new team from last season. We ‘ll look to be a competitive team.

Fort Calhoun (Jim Meyer): Ellie Shaffer, jr.; Anna Gepson, jr.; Mandy Hansen, jr. Hanna Lazure, jr.; Delaney Bruening, sr.

Wahoo Neumann (Paul Johnson): none. Coach’s comment: Six new runners out to go with four letter winners. Hopefully we’ll be competitive.

Yutan (Rod Henkel): *Emily Pogue, so.; Natalaie Lothinger, so. Coach’s comment: We start the season with just three girls. Emily could challenge for the individual title at each meet, but we’re still recruiting to field a full team. Emily was both conference and district champion last year, and in contention to place at state before stepping into a hole and limping through the finish.
